Grave Robbers in the Imperial City

You may remember me telling you last night how I ran out of lockpicks a few days ago whilst on a job for a “committee” of merchants in the Imperial city.  Well I have now found some more lockpicks and have gone back to Agarmir’s house to finish what I started, I’ll tell you about it.

Inside Agarmir's HouseOnce more I took up my position on the corner of Agarmir’s row of houses waiting for him to leave, when he did I sneaked along and carefully, so very carefully drew out a lockpick from my bag – I didn’t want to break it you see – and started to work the lock.  This lock is so hard!  I broke a couple of picks trying to get in but eventually managed to get the lock open.

I don’t mind telling you that I was so smug, after all I had bested this lock tat had given me so much grief just days earlier.  So I’m in his house have a peek about and didn’t find much to show that he was trafficking stolen goods.  His upstairs was full of items that looked liked they belonged there so I searched his downstairs more carefully and do you know what I found?  Another locked door – I could have cried, all that effort getting into the house in the first place and what’s my reward?  Another door, with a lock that’s just a tough!

Yet another lock to pick!It was a moment before I managed to pull myself together and start picking the lock and to my absolute astonishment found the I got the lock open on my first attempt – maybe I am getting good at this lockpicking thing!  Behind the door were stairs to a basement which I proceeded down without caution, safe in the knowledge that the owner of the house was out and wanting to get it over with before he returned.

In the basement I found several stacks of clothes and other items.  “Hello,” thinks I, “this is what I’m looking for.”  I was only a couple of moment before I found a few items that looked odd, namely a couple of shovels, some muddy shoes and several old bones.  Looking around some more, I discover a ledger containing entries of people and to my surprise I find that Agarmir isn’t robbing these items, but exhuming them from graveyards instead!

Yes, that’s right, Agarmir is a grave robber!

Well I knew that I had to tell somebody about this but had the insane idea that I’d catch Agarmir in the act and get the watch to arrest him, so instead of going to the watch right away, I decide to confront Thoronir with this evidence to see if he knew where his wares came from.

Now I didn’t expect Thoronir to go “Yep, that’s right” or anything but I wasn’t prepared for the force of his shock and denial of the facts.  In fact, when confronted with the ledger he looked like he’d just been transported to Oblivion and several Scamps were about to set upon him.  After some thought, he told me that Agarmir told him he’d be out of town today and looking at the ledger noticed that the last entry is right here in Imperial City – it looked to me like the time to catch Agarmir was right now so ran off to the graveyard to fin him.

Upon arriving I found that once of the crypts had been opened up and guessing that Agarmir was inside charged straight in with sword drawn.  Sure enough there he was with another man waiting for me.

Grave robbing doesn't pay - Agarmir's dead“You think I didn’t know you were after me?” Agarmir said.  “We’re not robbing graves today, we’ve dug a fresh one for your corpse.”  And with that they both charged at me!  Now Agarmir wasn’t the greatest swordsman that ever lived and his friend wasn’t much better that I, but he did have a magical sword that caused be a lot of grief, but in the end my Katana sung their names and called them to the afterlife!

Well pleased with myself, I proceed back to see Thoromir, who I was sure had somehow warned Agarmir that I was coming – after all he does look like a slimy Elf, just the right sort for selling second-hand goods!  It turns out that I was wrong about him though, he told me that he’d decided to donate all the remaining item and all the proceeds gained from the rest to the temple – what a fool! – and to cap it off he told me that he’s joining the bloody “committee” that works so hard to keep prices high – double fool!

On a plus point though he did give me a shiny magical ring that provides me with fire protected, which is more than I got from the tight “committee” who just gave me 100 gold coins!

Did you know that that the more you sell stuff to a shopkeeper, the more he likes you and decides to start lowering the buying prices and raise the selling prices?
Yep, so a good strategy is to pick one or two shops and keep selling them stuff and buying from them, thus carving yourself a business partner
